The Seoul to Busan KTX is one of the easiest ways to travel between Korea’s two largest cities — but the booking advice changed in September 2026.
The old standard Seoul–Busan KTX fare of ₩59,800 is no longer the number you should automatically use.
KORAIL’s published Seoul–Busan standard-class example is now ₩54,400 one way after Korea integrated its high-speed rail operations and reduced KTX fares in September 2026.
There is another important change.
Travelers no longer need to think of Seoul Station as “KTX” and Suseo as a completely separate “SRT” system in the old way.
The better question is:
Which departure station, train and booking method work best for your actual trip?

Seoul to Busan KTX: Quick Answer
| Question | Current Answer |
|---|---|
| Standard Seoul–Busan fare example | ₩54,400 one way |
| Simple return trip | ₩108,800 |
| Journey time | Varies by train and stopping pattern — check the live timetable for your date |
| Main central-Seoul departure | Seoul Station |
| Alternative for some travelers | Suseo |
| Normal ticket sales open | 07:00 one month before departure |
| Best for most fixed itineraries | Individual ticket |
| Several long rail journeys | Compare a KORAIL Pass first |
For many first-time visitors staying in central Seoul, Seoul Station is the simplest starting point.
But travelers staying farther south should not automatically cross the city just to leave from Seoul Station.
Check Suseo as well.
How Much Is the Seoul to Busan KTX in 2026?
KORAIL’s September 2026 high-speed rail announcement gives the standard Seoul–Busan example as:
₩54,400 one way
The previous standard-class example was:
₩59,800
That is a reduction of:
₩5,400 per journey
A simple return trip therefore costs:
₩54,400 × 2 = ₩108,800
Use that as the starting benchmark for a standard adult Seoul–Busan KTX comparison.
Your final cost can differ depending on:
- departure station
- exact train
- seat class
- applicable discounts
- booking platform
- payment currency or card conversion
Always confirm the exact train and final amount before paying.
If your travel date and departure station are fixed, compare the live Seoul–Busan train options before booking.

Seoul Station or Suseo: Which Should You Choose?
This decision became more important after the September 2026 high-speed rail integration.
From September 1, Korea integrated KTX and SRT operations, with former SRT trains incorporated into the KTX system.
KORAIL now allows travelers to search high-speed services from both Seoul Station and Suseo through the integrated booking system.
Do not choose purely by the old KTX-versus-SRT distinction.
Choose by your complete door-to-door journey.
Seoul Station Often Makes More Sense If:
- you are staying around Myeongdong or central Seoul
- you are staying near Seoul Station
- you are arriving through the AREX airport-rail corridor
- you want a straightforward central-Seoul departure
- you have an early train and want to stay close to the station
If an early departure or heavy luggage is part of the plan, our Best Hotels Near Seoul Station 2026 guide compares hotels by real KTX and luggage access rather than straight-line map distance.
Check Suseo If:
- you are staying in southern or southeastern Seoul
- you are based around Gangnam
- reaching Seoul Station would add a long cross-city journey
- a suitable Suseo departure matches your schedule better
The fastest train on paper is not necessarily the fastest trip from your hotel.

hotel → departure station → station buffer → train → Busan hotel

Where Should You Book the KTX?
There are three practical booking routes for most international travelers.
| Booking Method | Best Reason to Use It | Check Before Paying |
|---|---|---|
| KORAIL | Direct operator booking | Current schedule and operator rules |
| Klook | International-friendly real-time booking | Exact train, final amount and cancellation terms |
| Trip.com | Alternative international booking platform | Exact train, final amount and refund rules |
KORAIL Official
KORAIL is the train operator and should be the reference point for current schedules, availability and operator rules.
For normal travel dates, KORAIL currently states that ticket sales open at 07:00 one month before departure.
Special holiday reservation periods such as Seollal and Chuseok can use completely different sales schedules.
If you want to book directly with the railway operator, start with KORAIL.
Klook
Klook and KORAIL launched an integrated real-time rail booking service for international travelers in 2026.
The service connects to KORAIL rail inventory and allows travelers to check schedules and seat availability and receive confirmed digital tickets through Klook.
It can be useful if you prefer an international booking interface, multiple currencies or keeping other Korea travel bookings in the same account.
Before paying, still compare the exact train, departure station, seat class, final currency amount and cancellation conditions.
Trip.com
Trip.com also currently sells KORAIL train tickets for the Seoul–Busan route.
It is worth comparing if you already use Trip.com or prefer its payment and booking interface.
Use KORAIL as the reference point for the current railway schedule and operating rules, then check the exact train, final price, seat class, refund terms and change conditions before completing a third-party booking.
Do Not Compare Only the Displayed Starting Price
For any third-party platform, check the final checkout screen.
Compare:
- exact train
- departure station
- seat class
- final currency amount
- refund conditions
- change conditions
A cheaper-looking starting price is irrelevant if it is not for the train, class or conditions you actually want.
How Early Should You Book?
For normal travel dates, KORAIL currently allows ticket purchases from:
07:00 one month before departure
subject to availability.
That does not mean waiting until the last minute is a good strategy.
If your itinerary depends on one specific train — especially around weekends, peak travel periods or major Korean holidays — booking once your plans are fixed reduces the risk of losing the departure you want.
Holiday ticketing can follow completely different rules.
Traveling September 23–27, 2026? Read This First
Normal ticket-sale timing does not apply in the usual way to the 2026 Chuseok travel period.
KORAIL used a separate holiday reservation process for trains operating from September 23 through September 27, 2026.
For the general public, route-specific advance reservations ran from September 7 through September 11.
Suseo-origin and Suseo-destination KTX services on the major integrated high-speed routes had their own reservation day on September 10.
KORAIL reported on September 11 that 1.8 million of 2.14 million available seats had been reserved, an overall booking rate of 84%.
The Gyeongbu Line was already 91.3% booked, while the KTX booking rate across the holiday sale reached 92.7%.
Remaining seats reopened for purchase through KORAIL from 15:00 on September 11.
If you are traveling during September 23–27:
Check live availability now rather than assuming you can simply wait for the normal one-month booking window.
These dates and procedures are specific to the 2026 Chuseok period. Future Seollal and Chuseok sales can use different schedules.

Do You Need a KORAIL Pass for Seoul to Busan?
For a simple Seoul–Busan return trip, individual tickets are currently the better starting point.
Using KORAIL’s September 2026 standard-fare example:
Seoul → Busan: ₩54,400
Busan → Seoul: ₩54,400
Return total: ₩108,800
As checked in September 2026, the official adult 2-day KORAIL Pass price is ₩131,000.
That makes individual tickets ₩22,200 cheaper for this simple return itinerary.
The calculation changes when you add several substantial rail journeys.
If your Korea trip includes multiple long-distance trains, use our KORAIL Pass vs KTX Tickets 2026 guide and calculate your real itinerary before buying the Pass.
Do not buy a rail pass simply because you are visiting several cities.
Buy it only if the trains you will actually use justify the price.
Which Train Time Should You Choose?
Do not automatically choose the fastest train.
The better departure is the one that works with:
- hotel checkout
- travel time to the departure station
- luggage
- station arrival buffer
- Busan hotel check-in
- what you plan to do after arrival
An early train can give you more usable time in Busan.
But an extremely early departure is less attractive if you need a long taxi or subway ride across Seoul before reaching the station.
Likewise, a slightly slower train may make more sense if its departure time removes an awkward hotel-to-station connection.
Search the live timetable for your actual date rather than building your itinerary around a timetable copied from a travel blog.
Arriving at Busan Station
Busan Station connects directly with Busan Metro Line 1.
That makes it convenient for destinations on the Line 1 corridor and for onward connections toward areas such as:
- Nampo
- Seomyeon
- other destinations connected through the Busan subway network
Your train journey may be finished, but your door-to-door trip is not.
For Haeundae, Gwangalli and other eastern Busan destinations, allow time for an additional metro transfer, bus or taxi journey after leaving the train.
If KTX convenience, heavy luggage, a late arrival, or an early departure matters more than beach access, compare our Best Hotels Near Busan Station 2026 guide before choosing your Busan base.
If beach time and eastern Busan matter more, our Best Hotels in Haeundae Busan 2026 guide compares central Haeundae, the Mipo side, subway access, family-focused stays and premium hotel options before you book.
Coming Directly From Incheon Airport?
If you land at Incheon Airport and plan to continue to Busan by KTX, do not book an unrealistically tight connection.
You still need time for:
- immigration
- baggage collection
- travel from the airport to your departure station
- finding the correct train area
- unexpected flight or ground-transport delays
Our Incheon Airport to Seoul 2026 guide compares AREX Express, All-Stop trains, airport buses, taxis and late-night options.
If the timing is tight, staying one night near Seoul Station can be less stressful than building an expensive trip around a connection you may miss.
My Booking Rule
For Seoul to Busan, I would decide in this order:
- Choose Seoul Station or Suseo based on your hotel.
- Search the exact travel date.
- Pick a realistic departure time.
- Compare the exact train and booking conditions.
- Check the final price and refund rules.
- If you are taking several other long-distance trains, calculate the KORAIL Pass before paying.
For a simple Seoul–Busan trip, there is no need to make the decision more complicated than that.

Final Verdict: Best Way to Book Seoul to Busan KTX in 2026
For most travelers with a fixed Seoul–Busan itinerary, an individual ticket is the simplest choice.
KORAIL’s published standard-class Seoul–Busan fare example is ₩54,400 one way from September 2026, down from ₩59,800 before high-speed rail integration.
That makes a simple return trip ₩108,800 before any applicable discounts or payment-related costs.
Since September 1, the former KTX and SRT operating systems have been integrated.
Seoul Station and Suseo both remain useful high-speed departure points, so choose the station that creates the better hotel-to-Busan journey rather than choosing based on the old KTX-versus-SRT distinction.
For central-Seoul and AREX-connected itineraries, Seoul Station is often the easier starting point.
For travelers staying in southern or southeastern Seoul, Suseo may save substantial cross-city travel time.
Check your exact date, departure station, train, seat class and cancellation conditions before booking.
During special holiday periods such as Chuseok, separate reservation procedures may replace the normal ticket-sale schedule.
If your trip is simply Seoul → Busan → Seoul, start with individual tickets.
