Best Hotels in Gangnam Seoul: Gangnam Station vs COEX vs Apgujeong

This article contains affiliate links. If you book through these links, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.

A hotel can have “Gangnam” in its name and still be in the wrong part of Gangnam for your trip.

That is the mistake to avoid.

If COEX is part of your schedule every day, staying around Samseong can save more time than choosing a slightly cheaper hotel elsewhere in Gangnam.

If your trip revolves around restaurants, nightlife, and the Gangnam Station or Sinnonhyeon side, paying extra to sleep near COEX may solve the wrong problem.

If Apgujeong, Cheongdam, luxury shopping, dining, or beauty appointments are the reason you chose Gangnam, stay on that side.

And if most of your Seoul itinerary is actually Myeongdong, Jongno, the palaces, or Hongdae, Gangnam may not be the best base at all.

Choose the right part of Gangnam first. Then choose the hotel.

My simplest rule:

Book near the place you will return to repeatedly — not the hotel with the most impressive star rating.

First Question: Should You Stay in Gangnam at All?

Gangnam can be an excellent hotel base.

It is not automatically the best base for a first trip to Seoul.

Stay in Gangnam If:

  • COEX or a convention is a major part of your trip
  • you have repeated meetings south of the Han River
  • Gangnam restaurants and nightlife matter
  • Apgujeong or Cheongdam is a major priority
  • beauty or medical appointments are concentrated in Gangnam
  • Jamsil is also an important part of your itinerary
  • you deliberately want modern southern Seoul as your base

Skip Gangnam If:

  • your itinerary is dominated by Gyeongbokgung, Bukchon, Jongno, Myeongdong, or Dongdaemun
  • you expect to spend significant time in Hongdae
  • Gangnam appears on only one day of your itinerary
  • you chose Gangnam mainly because you recognize the name
  • minimizing repeated cross-city travel matters more than southern-Seoul nightlife

Our Where to Stay in Seoul 2026 guide compares the main Seoul hotel areas before you commit.

Gangnam Is Not One Hotel Neighborhood

Official Gangnam tourism information treats Gangnam Station, Apgujeong, Cheongdam, and COEX as distinct visitor areas with different purposes.

For hotel booking, I would divide the district into four practical zones.

1. Gangnam Station / Sinnonhyeon

Best for:

  • restaurants
  • nightlife
  • general Gangnam activity
  • business
  • travelers who want activity close to the hotel
  • more practical hotel spending

This is the side to start with when the Gangnam Station area itself is part of the attraction.

Do not assume a hotel here is equally convenient for COEX simply because both addresses are in Gangnam-gu.

2. Samseong / COEX

Best for:

  • COEX conventions
  • exhibitions
  • Starfield COEX Mall
  • Bongeunsa
  • business events
  • Jamsil-focused itineraries

This is the easiest location decision in the article.

If you need to be at COEX every morning, staying near COEX usually makes sense.

Repeated transport matters more than saving a small amount on the room.

3. Teheran-ro / Yeoksam

Best for:

  • business
  • meetings around Teheran-ro
  • premium city hotels
  • travelers who want a business-oriented Gangnam base without needing COEX outside the door

This area deserves its own category because “Gangnam Station” and “COEX” do not describe every business itinerary along Teheran-ro.

4. Apgujeong / Cheongdam

Best for:

  • luxury shopping
  • K-beauty
  • dining
  • cafés
  • Cheongdam
  • travelers intentionally choosing this part of Gangnam

Do not choose Apgujeong because it sounds prestigious.

Choose it because the places you will repeatedly visit are actually there.

The Hidden Hotel Cost: Repeated Travel Time

A cheaper hotel is not always a cheaper trip.

Imagine Hotel A costs $25 less per night but adds 20 minutes each way to a place you visit every day.

Over four days:

20 minutes × 2 × 4 = 160 minutes

You saved $100.

You also spent more than two and a half extra hours commuting.

That might still be an excellent trade for a budget traveler.

It might be a terrible trade for someone spending only four days in Seoul.

The point is not that everyone should pay more.

The point is that time belongs in the hotel-price calculation.

Luggage Changes the Value of a Hotel

A hotel can look perfectly located on a map from home.

It can feel very different after a long flight with two large suitcases.

Before booking, check:

  • the exact subway station
  • the correct station exit
  • elevator or escalator access
  • major intersections
  • underground passages
  • actual hotel entrance
  • room size
  • airport-bus access
  • whether a taxi is a better arrival choice

This matters in Gangnam because the cheapest airport route is not automatically the easiest route with luggage.

Our Incheon Airport to Seoul 2026 guide compares AREX, airport buses, taxis, and luggage trade-offs.

Room Size Matters More With Two Suitcases

Room size can differ sharply across Gangnam hotels — and across room categories within the same hotel.

Selected room sizes checked for this guide include:

  • GLAD Gangnam COEX Center Standard Double — 20.37 m²
  • Dormy Inn SEOUL Gangnam Standard Double — 15 m²
  • Park Hyatt Seoul 1 King Bed — 42 m²
  • ANDAZ SEOUL GANGNAM 1 King Bed — 33 m²
  • Josun Palace State 1 King Bed Room — 44 m²

These figures apply to the specific room categories listed above, not every room at each hotel.

Always check the exact room type shown for your dates before booking.

The practical question is not simply which hotel has larger rooms.

It is whether the room you are actually buying gives you enough usable space for your stay.

For one solo night, a compact room may be completely reasonable.

For two travelers opening two large suitcases for four nights, room space can materially change the experience.

My Luxury Premium Rule

This is my editorial rule, not a universal hotel-pricing rule:

If a luxury option costs roughly 30% more for the same dates and comparable booking conditions, I would pay the premium only when the hotel experience itself or its exact location is part of the trip.

Good reasons to pay more:

  • special occasion
  • larger room matters
  • pool, spa, dining, or hotel time matters
  • the exact location removes repeated travel
  • you deliberately want a luxury stay

A weak reason:

“It has more stars.”

1. GLAD Gangnam COEX Center — Best Practical Choice for COEX

Best for: COEX visitors, business travelers, couples prioritizing location over luxury

GLAD Gangnam COEX Center is at 610 Teheran-ro, and the hotel’s official access information directs guests to Line 2 Samseong Station Exit 1.

That location is the reason to shortlist it.

Why It Wins

Choose GLAD if:

  • COEX is one of the main reasons for your trip
  • you will attend a convention or exhibition repeatedly
  • Samseong Station access matters
  • you expect to spend most of the day outside the hotel
  • Jamsil is also on your itinerary
  • you would rather spend less on the hotel than move into a luxury category

The Room-Space Trade-Off

GLAD officially lists its Standard Double at 20.37 m².

That can work well for many short stays.

But if two travelers are carrying large suitcases, compare the exact room category and layout rather than assuming that every room will feel spacious.

Skip GLAD If:

  • the hotel itself is a major part of the vacation
  • you want substantially more room
  • luxury facilities matter
  • COEX is only one brief stop during the trip

GLAD Verdict

BOOK GLAD if COEX access matters more than having a luxury hotel experience.

This is the first hotel I would price-check for a practical COEX-focused stay.

Check Current GLAD Gangnam COEX Center Rates on Trip.com

2. Park Hyatt Seoul — Best Luxury Choice Near COEX

Best for: luxury travelers, special occasions, and COEX visitors who value the hotel itself

Park Hyatt Seoul and GLAD both make sense for travelers targeting the Samseong / COEX side of Gangnam.

But they are not selling the same stay.

Park Hyatt Seoul officially lists its standard 1 King Bed room at 42 m².

GLAD lists its Standard Double at 20.37 m².

That does not make Park Hyatt automatically better value.

It means part of the luxury premium buys a very different amount of room space and a different hotel experience.

Book Park Hyatt If:

  • COEX convenience matters
  • you actively want a luxury hotel
  • room space matters
  • the pool or hotel facilities matter
  • this is a special trip
  • you expect to spend meaningful time at the property

The Money Question

Ask yourself:

If GLAD were available for the same dates, would I still pay the difference for Park Hyatt?

If yes because you want the larger room and luxury experience, the premium may make sense.

If no, and you mainly need somewhere comfortable near COEX, you may be solving a location problem with a luxury product.

Skip Park Hyatt If:

  • you leave early every morning
  • return late every night
  • barely use the facilities
  • only care about the location

Better alternative: GLAD Gangnam COEX Center.

Park Hyatt Verdict

BOOK Park Hyatt when you want both the COEX location and Park Hyatt itself.

SKIP the luxury premium when you only need the location.

Check Current Park Hyatt Seoul Rates on Trip.com

GLAD vs Park Hyatt: Same Area, Different Purchase

Choose GLAD if:

  • location comes first
  • value matters
  • you spend relatively little time at the hotel

Choose Park Hyatt if:

  • room space matters
  • luxury matters
  • hotel time matters
  • the stay itself is part of the experience

“Which hotel is better?” is the wrong question.

Ask:

Which of the things I am paying extra for will I actually use?

3. Dormy Inn SEOUL Gangnam — Best Practical Value for the Sinnonhyeon Side

Best for: solo travelers, couples, practical spending, and general Gangnam access

Dormy Inn SEOUL Gangnam’s official access guide places the hotel about a five-minute walk from Sinnonhyeon Station Exit 4.

That makes it a different choice from a COEX-focused hotel.

Why It Wins

Choose Dormy Inn if:

  • Sinnonhyeon and Gangnam-area restaurants fit your plans
  • you want a practical hotel rather than a luxury hotel
  • keeping the hotel budget under control matters
  • general Gangnam access is more important than staying beside COEX

The hotel’s official access guide also currently lists Airport Limousine 6703 from Incheon Airport, with a stop at Novotel Ambassador Seoul Gangnam followed by roughly a one-minute walk to the hotel.

That can be useful with luggage, but airport-bus routes and schedules can change, so recheck the live service before traveling.

The Luggage Trade-Off

The current Trip.com listing shows the Standard Double at 15 m².

For a short solo stay, that may be completely reasonable.

Two travelers with large suitcases should look carefully at the exact room category.

A good-value hotel becomes less attractive if the room layout does not work for the luggage you actually have.

Skip Dormy Inn If:

  • COEX is your daily destination
  • larger rooms are a priority
  • you want a luxury hotel experience
  • you are choosing it only because the word “Gangnam” is in the name

Dormy Inn Verdict

BOOK Dormy Inn for practical general-Gangnam value.

SKIP it for a COEX-first itinerary.

Better alternative for repeated COEX visits: GLAD.

4. Josun Palace — Best Luxury Choice for Teheran-ro / Yeoksam

Best for: luxury stays, business travel, special occasions, and Teheran-ro itineraries

Josun Palace is officially located at 231 Teheran-ro.

That puts it in a different decision category from Park Hyatt at the Samseong end of Teheran-ro and Andaz in Apgujeong.

Why It Wins

Choose Josun Palace if:

  • Teheran-ro fits your business itinerary
  • meetings around this part of Gangnam matter
  • you want a luxury city hotel
  • room space matters
  • the hotel itself is part of the experience
  • you do not need COEX outside the door

The current Trip.com listing shows its State 1 King Bed Room at 44 m².

Again, that is a specific room category, not a promise about every room.

Skip Josun Palace If:

  • COEX is your repeated daily destination
  • Apgujeong is the real focus
  • you spend almost no time at the hotel
  • you are paying the premium only for the five-star category

Better Alternatives

COEX priority → Park Hyatt or GLAD.

Apgujeong priority → Andaz.

Practical general Gangnam → Dormy Inn.

Josun Palace Verdict

BOOK Josun Palace when Teheran-ro fits the trip and luxury is something you intend to use.

SKIP it when you are buying a star rating rather than a useful location or hotel experience.

Check Current Josun Palace Rates on Trip.com

5. ANDAZ SEOUL GANGNAM — Best for Apgujeong

Best for: luxury shopping, K-beauty, dining, couples, and Apgujeong-focused trips

Andaz has the clearest location story of the luxury hotels in this guide.

Hyatt states that the hotel is directly connected to Apgujeong Metro Station and within a short walk of the Apgujeong and Cheongdam areas.

Its standard 1 King Bed room is officially listed at 33 m².

Book Andaz If:

  • Apgujeong is a major part of your trip
  • beauty appointments are concentrated nearby
  • Cheongdam matters
  • luxury shopping matters
  • restaurants and cafés in this part of Gangnam matter
  • you want a premium hotel experience

Why the Location Can Justify the Price

If you have appointments, shopping, dining, or beauty plans around Apgujeong on several days, staying there can remove repeated cross-Gangnam travel.

Then the location itself becomes part of what you are paying for.

Skip Andaz If:

  • you will visit Apgujeong only once
  • your main sightseeing is Myeongdong and the palace district
  • you chose it because Apgujeong sounds prestigious
  • you do not care about the hotel experience

If Apgujeong is only one afternoon, moving your entire Seoul hotel stay here may create more travel than it saves.

Andaz Verdict

BOOK Andaz when Apgujeong is one of the main reasons for the trip.

SKIP it when Apgujeong is only a side trip.

Which Gangnam Hotel Should You Book by Trip Type?

COEX Convention or Exhibition

Start with:

GLAD Gangnam COEX Center

Then compare Park Hyatt if you want a luxury stay.

General Gangnam + Restaurants + Nightlife

Start with:

Dormy Inn SEOUL Gangnam

Do not pay for a COEX luxury location unless your itinerary actually needs it.

Teheran-ro Business Trip

Start with:

Josun Palace if luxury and hotel time are worth paying for.

Otherwise compare practical hotels around your actual meeting locations.

Apgujeong Shopping, Beauty, or Cheongdam Trip

Start with:

Andaz Seoul Gangnam

Its direct connection to Apgujeong Station is the strongest location argument.

Lotte World + Gangnam

Compare Samseong / COEX first because it keeps you toward the eastern side of Gangnam.

But if Lotte World is the real priority, staying in Jamsil may be smarter.

See our Best Hotels Near Lotte World Seoul 2026 guide before deciding.

First-Time Seoul Sightseeing

If palaces, Jongno, Myeongdong, Namsan, and central Seoul dominate your trip:

Skip Gangnam first and compare Myeongdong.

Our Best Hotels in Myeongdong 2026 guide covers that decision.

If nightlife and Airport Railroad convenience matter more, compare our Best Hotels in Hongdae 2026 guide.

One Night vs Four Nights Changes the Answer

One Night

Stay aggressively close to the reason you came.

One unnecessary cross-city journey can consume a large part of a one-night stay.

Two or Three Nights

Balance location and price.

A slightly cheaper hotel can make sense when the extra travel is small.

Four Nights or More

Repeated inconvenience becomes increasingly expensive.

An extra 15 or 20 minutes may look insignificant on a map.

Repeat it twice a day for four or five days and it becomes part of the vacation.

For longer stays, I would usually pay a reasonable premium for the correct sub-area before paying a premium for another hotel star.

Common Gangnam Hotel Booking Mistakes

1. Treating Gangnam as One Small Neighborhood

It is not.

COEX, Gangnam Station, Yeoksam, and Apgujeong solve different travel problems.

2. Choosing the Highest-Rated Hotel First

Choose the area first.

Then compare hotels inside that area.

3. Paying for Luxury You Will Not Use

A pool has no value to you if you never use it.

4. Ignoring Room Size

Two large suitcases can completely change how a compact room feels.

5. Choosing COEX for an Apgujeong Trip

Both are in Gangnam.

That does not make them the same base.

6. Choosing Apgujeong for a Classic First-Time Seoul Trip

A premium address does not move the palaces closer.

7. Comparing Different Cancellation Conditions

A cheaper non-refundable room and a flexible room are not the same product.

8. Ignoring Airport Arrival

Check the actual door-to-door route with your real luggage.

9. Looking Only at the Subway Distance Number

The useful question is not:

“How many meters?”

It is:

“How difficult is the actual route from the station exit to the hotel with my luggage?”

My Booking Rules

Rule 1: Area Before Hotel

Choose COEX, Gangnam Station/Sinnonhyeon, Teheran-ro/Yeoksam, or Apgujeong before comparing brands.

Rule 2: Compare Exact-Date Total Prices

Do not use remembered “average rates.”

Compare the same:

  • dates
  • occupancy
  • room type
  • cancellation conditions
  • breakfast
  • taxes and fees

Rule 3: Pay for Luxury Only When You Use It

My 30% rule is a decision framework, not a market law.

If the premium is substantial, I want a concrete reason to pay it.

Rule 4: Include Room Space in the Value Calculation

This matters more for:

  • couples
  • families
  • longer stays
  • travelers with large luggage

Rule 5: Repeated Destinations Matter More Than Famous Addresses

A hotel beside the place you visit four times can be worth more than a better hotel beside the place you visit once.

Rule 6: Skip Gangnam When the Itinerary Says So

Do not force Gangnam into a first Seoul trip simply because it is famous.

My Booking Order

There is no honest universal ranking.

The order depends on the trip.

COEX

  1. GLAD Gangnam COEX Center
  2. Park Hyatt Seoul

GLAD first for practical value.

Park Hyatt when the luxury experience matters.

General Gangnam

  1. Dormy Inn SEOUL Gangnam

Start here before jumping to luxury pricing.

Teheran-ro / Yeoksam Luxury

  1. Josun Palace

Book it because the location and hotel fit the trip.

Apgujeong

  1. ANDAZ SEOUL GANGNAM

Choose it because Apgujeong matters — not simply because it is luxurious.

Before You Book: Final Checklist

Before paying for a Gangnam hotel, ask:

  1. Which part of Gangnam is the hotel actually in?
  2. Where will I spend most of my days?
  3. How often will I cross the Han River?
  4. Is COEX a repeated destination?
  5. Is Apgujeong a repeated destination?
  6. Does Gangnam nightlife actually matter to me?
  7. What is the exact subway station?
  8. Which exit will I use?
  9. Is the station-to-hotel walk easy with luggage?
  10. How large is the exact room category?
  11. How will I reach the hotel from Incheon Airport?
  12. Am I comparing identical dates and booking conditions?
  13. Is breakfast included?
  14. Is the cheaper rate refundable?
  15. Will I use the facilities I am paying extra for?
  16. Would Myeongdong, Hongdae, or Jamsil remove more repeated travel?

If you cannot answer question 2, do not book yet.

Build the itinerary first.

Final Verdict: Which Gangnam Hotel Should You Book?

For repeated COEX visits, start with GLAD Gangnam COEX Center.

Upgrade to Park Hyatt only when you want the larger room and luxury hotel experience enough to pay for it.

For a practical Gangnam base around Sinnonhyeon, compare Dormy Inn before paying five-star prices.

For business and luxury around Teheran-ro, Josun Palace is the specialist choice.

For an Apgujeong-focused shopping, beauty, dining, or Cheongdam trip, Andaz has the clearest location advantage.

And if your first Seoul itinerary is mainly palaces, Jongno, Myeongdong, Hongdae, and other north-of-the-river sightseeing:

Skip Gangnam.

The best Gangnam hotel is not the hotel with the highest score.

It is the hotel that removes the most friction from the trip you are actually taking.

Before you book, ask one final question:

Would you rather pay more for a better hotel, or pay more for the location that saves you time every single day?

Those are not always the same purchase.
